WHAT IS CANNABIS? WHAT IS MARIJUANA?

First of all, let us differentiate these two terms. Cannabis refers to the plant which grows and produces buds and flowers that people subsequently use for consumption. Marijuana, on the other hand, is the processed and dried up product which is harvested from the cannabis plant.

Marijuana is also known by other names such as weed, dope, pot, Mary Jane, or ganja. It is the most widely used substance in the world next to alcohol. It is mainly used to induce psychoactive and mind-altering effects on the users as well as produce highs that are commonly sought after by marijuana users. There are three (3) main types of cannabis species that are cultivated. These are the cannabis sativa, cannabis indica, and cannabis ruderalis. Each one of these have different plant structures, THC levels, effects, and many more.

CANNABINOIDS: THC AND CBD

Cannabis plants are mainly composed of different compounds and chemicals called cannabinoids. These are the ones that cause the different effects of cannabis consumption. While there are over a hundred different cannabinoids found in a cannabis plant, four (4) of them particularly stand from the rest. These are the THC, CBD, CBC, and CBN. While further studies need to be performed on CBC and CBN, THC and CBD have been the main attraction in every cannabis plant.

THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the cannabinoid that mainly causes the psychoactive feelings associated with the substance. On the other hand, CBD or cannabidiol produces effects and health benefits for users without imparting and psychoactive side effects on the brain. Both of these compounds blend together amazingly. While THC is mainly connected to the recreational side of things, CBD tends to link itself with the medical area of cannabis.

DIFFERENT KINDS OF MARIJUANA SEEDS

  • Regular Marijuana Seeds – These are seeds which have a 50/50 chance of sprouting into male or female cannabis plants. While female plants are ideal for consuming, male cannabis plants are mainly used for breeding and producing additional seeds.
  • Feminized Marijuana Seeds – Feminized seeds are cannabis seeds that guarantee to sprout into 100% female cannabis plants. With this trait, it eliminates any possibility of male cannabis plants pollinating and ruining the weed crop. Separation of males and females is no longer an issue thanks to these seeds.
  • Autoflowering Marijuana Seeds – While they are generally feminized seeds, they also have the ability to produce marijuana flowers and buds automatically. This trait comes from breeding an indica or sativa strain with ruderalis genetics. Autoflowering seeds have the ability to fully mature regardless of the amount of sunlight it is exposed to.
