Marijuana Lights

Marijuana growing is fast becoming one of the most popular cultivation activities in the whole world. There are many ways in which you can approach doing it: you have a choice of indoor growing or outdoor growing. Each one of these methods of cannabis cultivation presents its own unique set of benefits and advantages to growers. It will all depend entirely up to the grower’s choosing marijuana lights.

If you decide to grow your cannabis plants in an indoor setup, then it is inevitable to require a lot of tools and equipment for your grow room. One of the most basic and common needs that cannabis growers require is the use of marijuana lights. Some of you may be wondering what marijuana lights are.

Importance of Light to Cannabis Plants

Well, a lot of the necessary nutrients that the cannabis plant uses to develop its plant structure come from the heat that it is able to absorb. While outdoor growing has the sun as a source for that heat, indoor growing needs to rely heavily on manual light sources in order to provide cannabis plants with some warmth.

Light provides the cannabis plants with the opportunity to photosynthesize properly and store enough energy to produce food for itself. It is the main foundation of proper growing since cannabis plants are used to warm and tropical climates. Cannabis growers usually have a scheduled timeframe in which they expose their cannabis plants to equal amounts of light and darkness. The most common ratio for this is 12 hours of light to 12 hours of darkness. This helps the marijuana seeds adapt to its growing environment and develop its roots and stems as it grows.

While it is more common for indoor cannabis cultivators to make use of these grow lights, it is not uncommon to see these in outdoor setups as well.  Here are the different types of marijuana lights that growers use for both indoor and outdoor planting:

  1. Fluorescent Grow Lights – These are great lights that really emulate the amount of heat that sunlight naturally produces. They are cheap and easy to buy in just any hardware store. Fluorescent light bulbs are perfect for beginner grow rooms with small spaces.

They are also very efficient when it comes to using up electricity. The downside to this is that they may have a shorter life as compared to other types of lights. Additionally, the heat that they give off may be quite weak.

  1. High Intensity Discharge (HID) Marijuana Grow Lights – When it comes to growing the largest yields possible in a short amount of time, then this might be your best bet. HID grow lights are also very simple and easy to install as they can be positioned directly above your plants via a hanging tool. They also emit strong spectrums of light that are enough to cover a whole grow room and expose each and every cannabis plant to it. Some types of HID lights include the High Pressure Sodium (HPS), Metal Halide (MH), Ceramic Metal Halide (CMH), and Light Emitting Ceramic (LEC) grow lights.

However, these lights tend to overheat so keep an ample amount of space between the plants and light. Because of this heating problem, additional vents and cooling fans may need to be installed.

  1. Light Emitting Diodes (LED) Grow Lights – Lastly, we have the LED lights. These are used more frequently in other activities such as home decorations and parties. However, it has also proven to be a very effective light source for cannabis plants. LED lights have certain cooling systems that prevent it from overheating. Additionally, the ones hanging from the ceiling cover a wide area and are extremely easy to install. Many people report their cannabis buds turn out to be more potent if exposed to LED lights.

The downsides to it are that the yields produces using this tend to be lower than when HID lights are used. Also, not every grow room is big enough to accommodate LED lights as they are quite large in size. They also tend to be too strong for some plants, eventually causing the leaves to burn if positioned too close to the plants.

Marijuana grow lights are an essential aspect of cannabis growing. They provide important nutrients that plants can only get from warmth. This is especially true for indoor cannabis cultivation where plants are not given sunlight. There are many kinds that growers can purchase. It will depend entirely on his growing area and what suits his needs the most. Regardless, any type of light will produce great and resinous buds as long as they are given the proper amount of care and effort. Happy growing!
